The Making of a Visual Diary

Project Inspiration

The inspiration for the Visual Diary presented itself during a spur-of-the moment visit to MoMA PS1.
I was stuck by this Yugi Agematsu work. An array of objects that is the result of a daily practice of collecting cast-off debris from NYC streets. A project so outwardly humble, yet remarkable in its discipline, determination, and unwavering commitment.
The artist curated his found debris into tiny arrangements, each capturing a “day in the life” (albeit discarded life) of New Yorkers. There are 366 arrangements. Spanning the entirety of 2020 (a leap year), they are segmented by month in one long calendar-inspired display.
